Employees may be exposed to agents in the environment that may cause stress to their bodies. These stressors may include:
- Chemical vapors, liquids, mists, or dust
- Inert dusts
- Fibers (asbestos)
- Noise
- Radiation (ultraviolet, ionizing, non-ionizing, infrared)
CIH Environmental Solutions conducts sampling requirements for bioaerosols, chemicals, dusts and fibers with laboratories that are accredited by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) and other recognized accreditation organizations. Sampling and monitoring methods conform to methods established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). All devices used for measuring air volumes are calibrated before and after sampling and are traceable to primary standards. Devices used for direct measurement of temperature, humidity, noise, radiation, and gas concentrations are calibrated before and after use and as required by the manufacturer (annual or semi-annual).
In accordance with the OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200), employers may be required to quantify any potential exposures. CIHES can provide the expertise to assess any potential exposures by evaluating work procedures and sampling/monitoring for any chemical or physical agent of concern.
